parkinson's disease

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological condition that mainly affects the motor system (physical effects). As the disease progresses, other symptoms such as cognitive difficulties become more common. The most obvious early symptoms are tremor, rigidity (stiffness of movement), slowness of movement (bradykinesia) and difficulty with walking such as poor initiation or freezing.

Neuro physio for Parkinson's Disease focuses on individualised exercise programmes with strategies to help you cope with the symptoms. This could include:

  • Balance programmes

  • Strengthening exercises

  • Strategies to improve bed mobility and transfer techniques

  • Advice on falls prevention

  • Strategies to help improve the fluidity of walking and initiation of movement
